We have enough momentum on this new comic strip feature for Poetry, Thought, Word Magick that it’s time to make it official…
"Allegory of the Llama" is a co-creation between me and my 23-year-old multitalented musician daughter, Hero Magnus. She does all of the art and graphics. We converged on the concept over the past year and thoroughly blend our creative thinking when coming up with ideas for each strip and finalizing their wording.
Meanwhile, this week I’m helping Hero move into her new apartment in Brooklyn. She spent her first months after college graduation making music in New Orleans (where she was born) and now she’s settling into New York for at least the next year and a half.
We are also collaborating for a Poets Theater piece there next month. I’ll come up from Alexandria, VA for the Welcome to Boog City 17.5 Arts Festival.

We go on in the 4pm hour for my new theatrical piece, Bloodwrought: Orpheus in the Nightclub (a shard of something bigger in the works), Hero plays an original musical set soon after, and then she participates in a tribute - for “Boog City Classic Albums Live” - to the The Smiths’ eponymous debut album on its 40th anniversary.
Hero Magnus is a musician and writer. As a teenager, she worked at legendary studio Inner Ear with Don Zientara and opened for punk bands around the DC metro area. Magnus went on to undergrad at Yale, where she became a college radio DJ. There, she wrote her debut EP, the lyrical and intimate Make Me A Man. In addition to her own musical work, Magnus has hosted dozens of concerts with artists from around the country, often designing the whole show from concept to execution. Currently, she is working on her first full length-album with the support of a postgraduate fellowship from Yale. Her new single, Therapy Song, is playful and funky, incorporating snarkier material and retro stylophone. Magnus’s music is available on all streaming and download platforms under her name. Find her at heromagnus.com, on instagram, or in Brooklyn, NY.
Wonderful all around!!
